I've decided to post a general leveling guide for new players who are struggling to find "good" places for exp. This list is meant ONLY to help you get through those rough patches. If your only goal is to minimize the effort of leveling, then this will work for you. This is by no means an exhaustive list, nor is it a list of the fastest places to level; simply the easiest ones which are accessible to all.
Please please PLEASE do not simply follow this guide and skip exploring as the Realms are HUGE and filled with awesome side quests, puzzles etc. Endless medieval enjoyment doesn't come from starting at 50. Its the journey that makes the game fun: not the destination.
2-5:
Academy, Warehouse, Shattered refuge (aka gnomes)
5-9:
Shattered refuge
9-15:
Coral depths (eels&lampreys)
15-25:
Coral depths (crab guards, young mermen, young mermaids)
25-35:
Spectrum (DISARM heavily suggested), Coral depths (kiael, triton, syrinx)
30-50:
Tree of life (amazons(30-35), Lightning dragon,death,famine,pestilence,eris (38-50)
40-50:
DAG (Storm giant (arena painting), Aram-dol(loss painting)
This blog is in no way, shape, or form related to the website http://www.realmsofdespair.com This is a PLAYER's blog about the MUD. I've been playing this MUD since 2001 and hopes to provide some insight into the intricacies of this awesome FREE game.

Efficient leveling
Let's face it. Leveling is BOOORING but it needs to get done.
- Have your leveling eq READY, in ONE place.
- Have TWO sets of leveling eq. One set for hp/hr/dr and maxes wis, one set to max basically all your stats to change into before you level.
- Aim for enemies about 5 levels higher than your character.
- Rotate. Do NOT sit in one spot wasting time waiting for repops. Go kill something else. You should never be idle. Rotating between mobs also prevents your buffer from filling up.
- Keep a good stock of potions on you and refill. Use purples for healing (or any other type of healing you like) and kaern potions for mana (you will need to find kaern for this) but having these handy will save you alot compared to violets and blues.
- Know what level mobs are. Hitting mobs too early just puts them in your buffer and nets you less exp. You get best exp from mobs roughly 5 levels ahead. It goes down on both sides of that level.
- MAX YOUR WISDOM. It determines max exp gain. 18 for thieves, 20 for most other classes, 22 for paladins, rangers, mages 25 for augurers, clerics and druids.
- Keep your buffer empty.. rotate. Then rotate some more.

Drinkcons and leveling
Always thirsty? hungry? STARVING? drinkcon's are your friend. Why?
a) They satisfy BOTH thirst and hunger (thirst more than hunger of course) every time you drink
b) Its free.. you don't need to buy food and keep all that extra weight either.. ONE drinkcon can fix all that.
c) renewable.. fill you can keep going.
